BirchgroveHouse
Renovation of a Victorian semi-detached house on the Parramatta River, in collaboration with Smith Design Studio.
a harbour setting
Set on a ridge overlooking the confluence of the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers, the existing house is dilapidated and disconnected from its beautiful setting. The proposal aims to simplify the plan and enhance the connection of the house to the landscape.
discreet modernity
The water elevation of the house has been designed as a sharply-detailed modern addition which is visually discreet. Deep eaves create shade and articulate the facade. Timber screens filter light and views, so that the house responds to its setting in the same way as the grand old tree in the centre of garden.
environmentally sustainable design
Care is being taken with the design to stitch sustainability into its very fabric.
